Is Southwest WiFi Free?
There is free inflight WiFi on Southwest, but, the free connection only allows access to Southwest’s inflight entertainment portal. Luckily, travelers can also send text messages via iMessage and WhatsApp at no extra cost. To browse the web, travelers need to pay for an internet connection.
Southwest WiFi Cost
The Wi-Fi is available for $8 a day. A-List Preferred members get this for free. Travelers can use the paid option to access the internet on a single device. This paid WiFi allows travelers to check social media, emails, and do light browsing on the web.
Unfortunately, neither the paid nor free WiFi on Southwest allow streaming through third-part applications. So, travelers cannot watch content on Netflix or HBO Max. Other high-bandwidth applications and activities may not work.

The Bottom Line
Southwest WiFi allows connections for inflight entertainment and free texting. Travelers who want to do more can upgrade to a paid option which costs $8. However, the connection does not allow for streaming content on apps or websites like Netflix or HBO Max.
For now, at least there is free texting, Delta Airlines has a similar option. Some low-cost carriers like Sun Country do not offer internet connections for browsing the web or texting. Frontier has no WiFi or entertainment onboard their flights.
